One of the artists that was present at our Amsterdam Dance Event special was 8Kays. Not only did she perform a fire guest mix there, she’ll also be gracing our stage during A State of Trance 2024 in Rotterdam! We’ve asked her some questions about her music, upcoming projects and her role as a female in the industry!
For those who aren’t familiar with you yet: how would you describe yourself and your music?
I’m a DJ and a producer, but I feel more confident about being called producer first. At the moment I am grateful that I can do what I want in music. It could be a techno groove, but with melancholic melodies, which I am obsessed with. It could be a breakbeat base, but still with the bigger room synths around it. It’s hard to describe, I’d better invite you to listen :)
Are there any upcoming releases that you are excited for?
I got a track coming out with Bedrock in November as a part of a 25-year special release curated by John Digweed. Next to that, I am happy to remix Armin’s ‘Yet Another Day’ track, which you can also hear in my mix. The rest – yet to be presented later, but, surely, there’ll be more exciting projects!
What is it like for you to be a female within the electronic music industry?
With the importance of bringing support to women in the industry, I hardly feel this to be relevant. I do subjectively think It’s always music, that comes first for any artist regardless of gender. If you do quality music, it doesn’t matter whether you are female, or not. People treat you like an artist. I do think this is something promoters and artists should bear in mind as the first thing.
Not only did you play during Amsterdam Dance Event, you’re also on the line up for Rotterdam in 2024. What can people expect from your set there?
I expect nothing but fun! Feels great to be a part of it!
